Hello! Our blog this week focuses in on heart worm from a personal perspective. Cindy, the founder of the John R. Hamil Animal Wellness Foundation, adopted Beaux, a heart worm positive dog.
I interviewed Cindy to find out about Beaux and what they needed to do to treat him. Click here to listen to the interview. There is a lot of good information. (If the link is not live, please check back... in reposting I had a little bit of technical difficulty.)
The short version is: heart worm is serious but treatable. Dogs that are heart worm positive can be brought into a home with heart worm negative dogs. Don't give up on a dog that is infected, but do know that you'll need to treat it so that your dog can be a healthy member of your family.
And please make sure to get your pet spayed or neutered! (Remember, if you or someone you know lives in Blount County, TN and needs financial assistance to get a pet fixed, please contact us, we can help. We also know of sources to help pay for feral cats to be fixed -- if you can catch them, we'll help get them "tutored.")
Thank you and see you next week!
